There’s something about fall that makes us want to hold our people a little closer.
Maybe it’s the cooler evenings (hopefully!), the golden light, or the realization that another year is quietly beginning to wind down. The kids are a little taller. Their personalities have changed. And somehow, the family you photographed last year already looks different.
That’s what I love most about fall family photography.
Yes, the colors are beautiful. The light is gorgeous. But the real beauty has very little to do with the season itself. It’s about documenting your family exactly as they are right now.
Your Family Changes More Than You Realize in a Year
When you see your children every day, growth happens almost invisibly.
You may not notice the little changes until you look back at a photograph from a year or two ago. Suddenly, you see the baby face that disappeared, the missing teeth, the little hand that used to fit completely inside yours.
Family photographs give us a way to see time.
That’s why I encourage families not to wait for a major milestone to schedule a session. Childhood itself is worthy of being documented.

Why Fall Is So Beautiful for Family Photos
Fall in North Georgia gives us a beautiful combination of softer temperatures, warm landscapes, and rich evening light.
But I don’t believe fall portraits have to mean overly themed sets or everyone dressed in traditional autumn colors.
My approach to fall family photography remains consistent with the rest of my work: refined, natural, and centered around connection.
I want the season to complement your family, not compete with it.
Soft textures, thoughtful wardrobe choices, beautiful light, and a gorgeous location create the setting. Your connection does the rest.
You Don’t Have to Be Perfectly Posed
One of the biggest misconceptions about professional family photography is that everyone needs to behave perfectly.
They don’t.
Your children don’t need to stand still and smile at me for an entire session. In fact, I don’t want them to.
We’ll walk.
We’ll cuddle.
We’ll play.
I’ll encourage you to look at your children instead of constantly looking at the camera. I’ll capture the little hands reaching for you, the spontaneous laughter, the sibling personalities, and the moments that happen when everyone forgets they’re being photographed.
Of course, we’ll create the beautiful portrait where everyone is together and looking at the camera.
But we’ll also create the photographs that feel like your family. Those are often the ones that mean the most.
What Should You Wear for Fall Family Photos?
Your wardrobe plays an important role in creating polished, timeless family portraits, but coordinating your family doesn’t mean everyone needs to match.
Instead, think about creating a cohesive palette.
Soft neutrals, warm creams, muted earth tones, subtle patterns, and beautiful textures photograph wonderfully during fall. Start with one piece you love…often Mom’s dress…and build the rest of the family’s wardrobe around it.
The goal is to create visual harmony while still allowing everyone to look like themselves.

Fall Photos Are About More Than Holiday Cards
I love a beautiful holiday card as much as anyone, but your fall family session deserves to live beyond December.
